These materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning and improve their school lives because our school focuses on programs built online to assist our students with math, reading, writing, and phonics. With the varying academic levels in my classroom, they are always searching for more ways to learn and improve. The iPads would provide extended time to all subject matters. Many student's do not have access to computers at home for the extra time or for when we provide holiday incentives, as our student has a high poverty rate and more than half of the students from low-income households. I would like to provide a fair chance to accommodate these students, as well. We use two different reading/phonics programs called Smarty Ants and Achieve 3000 with weekly goals. We have two days a week, 30 minutes each for the computer lab. The only other time during school hours they have is in the classroom during centers or when they are finished with their work. We also have a math program student's use during their math centers. I have a few class computers but they are not allowed to move them around the room and sometimes we have difficulties with the older models. These cause more distractions when the students need the help getting the computers to function properly. You would be surprised how much time we lose taking this time out. Since today's society is technology driven, I would like to provide two iPads for the classroom for the student's to benefit more time and have more resources for at least a couple more students to access at a time and to rotate out. They will be easier to access, extend learning time, and even be used for good behavior incentives, as well.
