I believe that my students would benefit from many different seating options in the classroom. This year, I plan to teach my 1st grade students how to work on activities independently while I work with small groups of other students in the class for more direct instruction. I have found that students are more successful during independent work time when they can find a spot around the classroom that meets their individual needs. With the funds from this project, I hope to add 2 additional bean bag chairs to the classroom and 6 wobble cushions. Both these options give students comfort during independent time and the wobble cushions give students the ability to move around a little as well. In addition, the funds from this project will supply each student in the classroom a bouncy band for their chair. These bands will allow students to keep their feet moving through the resistance of the band during independent work time. By adding in different seating options, my students will be able to work independently in places that they have chosen because they know they can be successful there. I know that my students will feel more at home and be more successful in my classroom by adding these items.
