Because my classroom is not a traditional classroom, we are funded differently. After purchasing the necessary curriculum and supplies, we do not have the funds for books in our classroom library, resulting in a very small classroom library. By mid-year, my students have experienced all the books I have in my meager library. Books, both within and outside of the curriculum, are a huge part of a classroom setting, and often act as the stepping stones to student success. These books, such as the garden, water and dinosaur books, will be used in conjunction with lesson plans in our district reading curriculum to both expand my students' knowledge and provide more real-world examples. The books I have chosen will also be used to encourage a love of reading and exploring the world of books, while also making a strong connection to the weekly or monthly focus, including holidays and seasons. The books in this project range from a dollar a piece, upwards of about $15, with a variety of hardback and paperback. There is a wide variety of books that can be read independently and books that make for memorable story-time. All of the books selected coincide with the curriculum, as well as seasons and holidays that occur during the school year.
