Currently I have a classroom library that has been pieced together from books throughout the years from different teachers. I have worked to organize it and make it more appealing, but the lack of new materials make it less appealing to the kids. I am wanting books that are current and important to who they are or may be. Reading for some of my kiddos comes naturally, they love it. For some, though, they are reluctant and they don't "click" with what a lot of books are about. I am wanting to add more diverse literature that is more current to our world today while also making the classroom library/reading nook a more comfortable and warm place to escape to. "The Hate U Give" is a book that has an array of awards of recognitions; it is a book that so many of my students will be able to pick up and not want to put down. This is the case for many of the books I have carefully selected. The incentive posters will help the kids be able to track the books they read and be able to be celebrated for all their successes. Our rug will cover the standard concrete style carpet you find in so many schools and offices. The furniture as a whole will make this place a homey and warm place that invites them to escape into a world that is not their own, an outlet for many to forget about any of the worries they may have.
