We are asking for copies of Ready Player One to teach at the junior level in our Contemporary Literature class. We are trying to revamp our curriculum to engage all students through literature and relation to teenage struggles and humanity. We plan to have this be a book used in our curriculum for years to come. We will teach the literature and work through literary analysis using this novel. We will also use this to teach the concept of dystopian fiction in relation to classic novels like 1984 and Fahrenheit 451. I asked my students if they would describe our class and our need because they are who I am asking the donations for, not me. This is what they had to say: Contemporary Lit is a class that I look forward to going to everyday. "Not only do we have one of the most passionate teachers I have ever been taught by, but this class is filled with students who share the same passion that Mrs.H has. The only problem is that we are supposed to be reading and learning Contemporary Literature, but we aren't able to acquire any of the newly approved books. In Mrs. H’s class, a massive chunk of it is spent in large class discussions. The discussions key events in the novel we’re reading, to current events, and even debates over divisive topics. The Bell Ringer we do every class is a quick prompt that we answer in Google Classroom, then talk extensively about as a class. With a plotline centered completely around what the world may be like in OUR lifetimes, and written with young adults in mind, the story of Wade Watts will without a doubt continue to push life into class discussions.
