Our wonderful group of special learners desperately need a variety of seating options for learning. Our students would love to sit on the floor, in different chairs, and spread out into different areas of the room in order to learn. Flexible seating would provide our students with the opportunity to learn in a way that best suits their needs. Since we are teaching students with special needs, they do not learn in the same way as their peers. They need constant movement and stimulation to stay on task. Often this need to move looks like misbehavior, when really our students just need to find a different area in the room to sit down, lay, or stand in order to complete their tasks. A variety of seating will reduce student behavior, which in turn will promote student learning and time on task. Our students can sit on these stools at the kidney tables, which will provide variety to the regular chair. They can use the bean bag chairs in our "cool down" break area, or as another place to silently read around the classroom.
