I have learners of all ages, SES, and varied levels of ability. Most of my students, however, are minorities from low SES families. I also have many SpEd and LEP students. May of my students do not speak English at home. I teach Family & Consumer Sciences, Introduction to Careers, Teen Leadership, Principles of Human services, as well as Study Skills. Here we learn respect, goal setting, values, social conduct, nutrition, cooking, sewing, job and interviewing skills. We learn how to treat others, how to take care of ourselves, how to budget, save, invest and manage money. This is by no means an exhaustive list; we also learn so much more. When students ask "what is this class about", I tell them "It's Adulting 101!". This is where they learn the skills they need to succeed in life; the things so many wish they had learned in school.
