Having appropriate seating is essential to quality collaborative learning. Too often, classrooms are stuffe d with desks, tables, and chairs that make it difficult for students to collaborate and enjoy the learning process. As a first year teacher, it seems as if I have all of the desks that do not match! It has been interesting to the students to see how the class will be arranged from day to day. It is even more interesting for me to figure it! Having the activity tables would make it easier for me to incorporate engaging interactive activities where students have a level playing field to manipulate, touch, and see things. The students also need a safe learning environment. With consistency in seating arrangements, the students are able to maneuver throughout the classroom safely, especially since they travel with personal laptop computers. Our students are 1:1 with technology! A large enough platform to hold the laptops along with other resources is vital to positive engagement. I love peer learning groups, and so do my students! These desks, along with a few chairs, would improve the quality of learning that I could provide for them in a cool, safe, energetic, and engaging environment.
