Our students live in a small farming community. Due to this our students are unaware of many things that go on around the world. Time for Kids magazines provides students with an avenue to learn about the world outside of their small community. Our school has a forty-five minute block of time where we strictly focus on reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Time for Kids magazines would be an amazing resource to use during this time. When students are reading material that sparks their interest they are more likely to participate and be engaged in the strategies provided to them. One of the strategies is the use of white boards. White boards allow students to share their thoughts with their partner, small group, or the entire class. This allows the teacher to also quickly scan the room to check for understanding in a non-threatening way. My project includes two levels of Time for Kids magazines to accommodate all of the reading levels in our classroom.
