My students need projects such as Generic Rockets-24, with 24 Rocket Engines and materials such as tape, pipe cleaners and white glue plus games, Perfection, Farkle and Quirkle, that get my students interacting with other students to build motivation and social skills. Indoor recess began two months ago in my classroom. Regular education students have started coming in to 'play' with Special Education students. It has been a huge success! We are building relationships and social skills resulting in an environment of NO MORE LONERS. Students create things together, play games as teams, problem solve disagreements, and practice turn taking, and relationship building. More supplies will keep indoor recess going strong. Students are getting academics done so that they can come to Indoor Recess. Students are making connections from the classroom to the project they are doing. Students are actively learning instead of passively sitting.
