When I think about the students I work with, a quote by Lyman Abbott comes to mind: "Do not teach your children never to be angry; teach them how to be angry." These students have experienced situations that no child should encounter, and it is important that they learn that it is okay to be angry. When teaching students about anger, we often say, "It's okay to be angry, but it is not okay to cause hurt to yourself or hurt to others because you are angry." Students often learn best through examples, conversation, and evidence based games, and the products that I am requesting for this project will assist me in teaching students about anger in an engaging manner that appeals to multiple learning styles. "More Creative Coping Skills for Children: Activities, Games, Stories, and Handouts to Help Children Self-regulate" will assist me in teaching students coping strategies in a variety of non-traditional ways by meditation, art, interactive stories, and more. "Acting Out: 60 Role Play Cards That Explore Critical Teen Issues" will help students to practice responding appropriately to different anger scenarios. The more opportunities that students are given to practice responding appropriately to anger scenarios, the better equipped they will be to spontaneously respond appropriately when a situation arises. As a school social worker, I will use these games working one-on-one with students on a daily basis and also when working with students as a group. These games will teach students about their anger and teach them strategies for controlling their anger. These anger management skills are vital to the success of my students both now and in the future.
