Many of my students are very talented with good drawing skills; they have been blending with pencil for a long time. So, we start out blending, learning the other shading techniques then moving to color. My beginning students will work with a variety of drawing media such as markers, color pencils, chalks, and oil pastels. The wide variety of color pencils has dwindled to a few colors and many of the markers are used up by now. So, color pencils and markers are needed in order to create a variety of artworks. My students will also be painting later in the semester. My allotted budget has long been spent and basic colors are needing replenished. It is my second year at this school and I have found that most of my students have not had the exposure to, what most of us would consider, basic art supplies. I have advanced classes that are eager to work with more painting techniques such as watercolor and oil paint. The watercolor pencils are a great way to start learning to blend colors. We have the paints and need some good brushes for the watercolors. Some of the students are working towards their first AP portfolio and we want them to have a variety of materials to produce their artworks. We create a lot of artwork. We display on 12' bulletin boards, hanging framed art, and in our main office. Our school has a spring art exhibit with a reception and awards ceremony. Our students also enter local, state, and national contests. We had six student artworks accepted in a national publication last year and will be submitting again this spring. Our students take pride in their artwork and we want to support them in any way we can.
