Students will read new texts that come from different backgrounds and authors from around the world. This will open their eyes to people of all cultures, and because of the diversity of my classroom, reflect some of their cultures in great literature. Often students do not have the chance to read texts that reflect themselves or their stories- these texts will give them a chance to do so. Both of these texts deal with complex social issues that our students face every day. Hopefully exposure to these works of literature will help them synthesize these experiences, and explore big life questions that they encounter.
