My students read a story book weekly in Spanish. Some of the reading books are complex with words that students have not yet learned. Instead of me telling students what the words mean, I prefer that my students find their meaning using a dictionary. Students engaged in this process have a higher success retaining the information. I have student daily complete dictionary scavenger hunt where they research and find words and create phrases to use in their class projects. Students have demonstrated that they are able to conduct research and are capable of not only reading literature but finding and solving solutions to problems by finding unknown words from their story books.
