One of the most difficult challenges working in a special education classroom is motivating your students to read. Students are often embarrassed that they struggle reading and it does not help that the reading they can access seems to childish for their age. The Time for Kids readers often captivating subjects that makes kids want to read. Motivation is the first step in helping a child develop their literacy skills. Additionally, our class voted on Maniac Magee for our next group reading. This is a great coming of age story, that is age appropriate and full of literary techniques and elements.
