I dream of a classroom that provides my kids with the atmosphere and resources they need to feel successful. My special education class is made up of students with wildly varied academic levels and needs. Some need support with study skills, while others need one-on-one instruction. Some struggle with language, while others struggle with number sense. However, all of them share in common the need for resources to develop real-life skills. The need for real-life skills is what prompted me to create my Donors Choose profile. This year has been one of discovery. The greatest discovery I have made is that my students enjoy reading together. When we started our first read aloud this year, they were engaged with the text and excited to read more each day. Reading sparked conversation with each other which has given my classroom verve and drive.
