My students represent a culturally diverse, majority-minority, high poverty, school-wide free and reduced lunch, public school in the State of Washington. George T. Daniel Elementary services 533 students, 45.6% are Transitional Bilingual (also known as English Language Learners), and 12.4% qualify for special education services (Washington State Report Card, 2016). My instruction provides universal access to an essential, non-STEM content area. They love to learn new things! For many students, music class is where they can feel most successful. My position as a General Music Specialist is a unique opportunity to see students grow over multiple years. With your help, the instruments and classroom materials my students desperately need to create positive, first music experiences will be available to the WHOLE student body, for all seven years I see them.
