As my students range in personalities and work habits, some students have a lot more energy. Simple in-class objects, such as the flexible seating balance balls, can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially. Instead of punishing a child who just has more energy, I can provide a positive atmosphere by giving those students outlets for the energy to go, while keeping them engaged and on-task! Also, my students can participate in hands-on learning by each scholar using their own whiteboard to write on. This can be used in whole group instruction, small guided groups, and learning centers. I can use them to engage every child in every single lesson. Minute by minute, I will know exactly who’s grasping the concepts and who’s not as they can show me the whiteboards in the air versus grading papers constantly. Therefore, right away I can see who needs extra help and pull to work with. Students love them because they’re fun. Lastly, any mistakes made during guided practice can be easily brushed away!
