My students are full of thoughts and ideas but are paralyzed by the concept that they only write for me to see and hear. We are working extremely hard this year on authentic writing. One of the easiest ways I can help my students in this venture is to provide them with enticing materials. The materials you are helping to fund will aid my students in becoming lifelong writers. I want students to know that they are writing to their principal, their peers, their Congress person, their mayor, etc. I want them to know that words are powerful and have meaning and because of that, they are powerful and have meaning. I will be able to fully implement the Writer's Workshop model and create an inclusive, writing loving community. The pens, highlighters and pencils will be used during mini lessons and work time. Many of my students make the comment, "Real writers or adults use pens." For most, this is the first time that they are able to use pens in school. It is an exciting time for a fourth grader! The post-its will be integrated throughout all parts of Writer Workshop, including when we celebrate each others' writing and leave uplifting comments to our peers. The large post-its will be used for my mini lessons, so that all students can see me authentically write and have meaningful anchor charts throughout our classroom. I know that my students have the capacity and ability to be amazing writers who write for real world purposes, but we need you to make this a reality! Thanks!
