The use of comfortable seating like soft rugs and pillows and high-interest novels like the Harry Potter and Narnia series in a reading corner allows students to escape into an imaginary world with ease. Many of my students come from families that cannot afford materials for them to take to school like pencils or backpacks, let alone buy a book series a kid may be interested in reading. "I have always imagined paradise as a kind of library." This quote by Jorge Luis Borges emphasizes the possibility for these students who have so much on their minds, not related to academics, to leave all of that temporarily behind and feel like they are in a place of complete solace.
