My school is located in an urban center. My students are African-American and are all free or reduced lunch. They are hard-working and driven students who have made a choice to attend a college preparatory middle school. In order to excel, they have extended school days and an extended school year. The teachers write their own data driven curriculum to push the students with rigorous lessons plans and objectives. Students read independently for at least 30 minutes each day at school and at least 30 minutes at home. Many of them participate in after school clubs such as book clubs, math team, or knitting. They have expressed interest in athletic clubs at school. However, we have not yet offered any to them.
