Current events keep students interested and engaged in reading. Scholastic News can be used with whole group or small groups to increase reading comprehension. This resource will help my English learners build vocabulary necessary to be successful in school. Class sets of reading materials at the library are no longer available, due to budget cuts. Kids like to be able to discuss what they have read with each other. Scholastic also offers online activities, which support the text. Many of my kids don’t have books at home. Scholastic News is a great way for kids to have an inexpensive, quality source of reading that they can take home. Studies show that students with books at home have a higher success rate at school than even those with supportive parents.
