It is a struggle for all middle school educators to engage and peak the interest of students in this age group. Students learn best when they can actually see or have a hands on approach with a concept. An aquaponic system will give my students this hands on opportunity to learn about germination rates by observing the rate at which different plants grow in the aquaponic system. They will learn about fish anatomy by observing the different fish we use in the system, and learn more about the nitrogen cycle as we observe and discuss the ways both organisms work in a symbiotic relationship. This aquaponic system will engage students and give them a hands on lesson on sustainable agriculture processes.
