Having lost our school and classroom library to Hurricane Harvey, my students have had to contend with being separated onto three campuses unprepared for the influx of junior high children. This means a lack of novels and literacy opportunities to kids expected to pass a state reading test in four months. As a Pre-AP teacher, it is imperative that I am able to foster and reignite their love for reading despite all the hardships we currently face. About half of my students are currently homeless, due to Hurricane Harvey living in campers, shelters, and damaged housing. This classroom library would provide them access to materials they can enjoy during their long commutes and in their restricted space after school.
