Students vary greatly in their literacy needs and ability levels. As a result, it is necessary to provide multiple opportunities for students to read, write, participate in meaningful experiences, and collaborate with others so that they can develop their ability to read and comprehend. Literacy centers promote student collaboration, facilitate student motivation, and provide targeted practice for students. In order to fully implement Daily 5, I need to create innovative, challenging, and engaging literacy activities. Students will use these materials while working in Daily 5 centers. During Daily 5, my students participate in learning stations including the: word table, teacher table, library (read-to-self), iPad center, listening center, and seat work center. The wobble chairs will help me provide more comfortable seating options around my classroom. The books will be added to my classroom library, and the dry erase pockets and alphabet materials will be used at the word table center. Students who have a positive first experience with reading and writing have a greater chance of continuing to foster those academic areas. Giving my students the opportunity to have a positive experience will build their love for reading and writing. Thank you for taking an interest in our project! It is greatly appreciated by my students and myself.
