I want to give my students options for where and what to read: having a variety of appealing books as well as a variety of seating choices will provide them with comfort and interest. By providing a library area with ample places to sit or lay, children will be able to stay more focused on what they are reading. By having more options for what books to chose from, their excitement and engagement will thrive as well. Reading is essential to a child's success. Many of the books I have included are about common struggles that 2nd graders face: problems at recess, tattling, and learning about empathy, to name a few. Not only will my students be increasing their academic skills by reading more, but they will be learning about how to become overall successful people with strong characters. I'm looking forward to providing my students with an inviting reading area that they look forward to getting to spend time in. I'm also looking forward to having meaningful discussions about the important topics touched on in these stories.
