My students will love being able to sit on a yoga ball instead of a typical standard school desk chair. This will not only better their individual health, but will increase their engagement in the class. Yoga is beneficial to both physical and mental health. Calling all kinesthetic learners! Kinesthetic learning or tactile learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations. Sitting on a yoga ball can appeal to kinesthetic learners, and all types of learners for that matter, by bringing a physical component to a traditional high school English classroom. Modern students are used to immediate response and individualized engagement from growing up with technology at their fingertips. Today's students more easily become bored and distracted as a result. This seating option would not only benefit the ADHD child or special education student, but all students! Having to balance on a yoga ball during instruction would help to increase focus throughout instruction and benefit all learners. Through research, I have seen fantastic results from classrooms with alternative and modern seating options. I know my students would benefit as well, and I can't wait to see their excitement, as well as engagement, increase with our new seating options.
