I teach in a Performing Arts Magnet School. Students come from great distances to go to this school. Many have to get up at 5am in order to arrive at the school for their first class. There are no auditions required for admission. Any student from any school in the district can attend our school. The students range in musical training from absolutely none to some training. We start at the beginning and watch how the talents grow exponentially in the four years that attend our school. I remember one student who started with a vocal range of a "fifth" and left with a massive three-octave range. Our students compete yearly and have always been graded "superior" - winning every competition that we've ever entered! We show our students what excellence can be, and expect them to work toward that excellence. Our budgetary constraints prevent us from purchasing copies of music for our students. Therefore, I arrange music for them. The binders and paper will ease the burden of making copies.
