Pre-K students take great pleasure in listening to stories; a new listening center and the Classroom Classic Read - Along books and CDs will allow my students to listen to stories, such as Five Little Monkeys and The Three Billy Goats Gruff, and enjoy books that they cannot read on their own. As a workstation, it will give the students a sense of independence and nurture their love of reading. A listening center will provide opportunities for necessary repetition and at the same time learning independent skills. A listening center will foster a love of reading that we work so hard to instill at a young age to help ensure success in school! The more the students listen to their favorite books being read, the greater the likelihood they will learn about print and book awareness, such as, tracking left to right, and new vocabulary words. Also, when listening with special friends, the opportunities for playing creatively and acting out parts of the story are endless.
