My classroom is a self-contained K-2 Autism classroom in the city of Providence, RI. It is a title I school and all of the children receive free lunch. The students in my classroom have varying academic, social and behavioral needs. Which means we require an extensive amount of materials for all academic levels, sensory needs and physical abilities. Working in the largest school district in the state leaves our classrooms lacking any funding from the School Department. My classroom is lacking the materials needed to keep children safe, secure and able to learn in an academic setting. Our classroom services up to 12 children with ASD. Typically half of those children are non-verbal. Each year new students enter the classroom requiring materials for their individual needs.
