Recent educational legislation has focused intensively on bringing struggling students up to grade level. As a result, what little state funding we receive for advanced learners can only be used to identify students and provide professional development. My goal is to provide academic materials that will re-engage advanced learners in all content areas. Through previous grants, we've been provided with robotics, math tools, engineering equipment, musical instruments, and more. Now we want to purchase three sets of highly engaging books that not only enhance literacy, but also give tremendous insights into the time periods and regions that students cover in their social studies classes. In addition, each of these books addresses social issues that today's youth are forced to evaluate each day.
