I currently lost everything in my classroom due to flood and mold damage caused by Hurricane Harvey. I have been teaching in my classroom for 7 years and having lost everything from the storm has been devastating to our school and student body. I greatly need books for my library (reference and student leveled novels) and other classroom basics that meet the needs of my ADD and ADHD students and provide a multi-sensory approach to learning reading and writing skills. My fourth grade students already had daily struggles prior to the storm. They come from low-income homes or are English language learners. It is shocking and overwhelming to think that they lost their homes (completely underwater) and are very displaced currently. Many of my students are living in shelters with their families because their homes/apartments have been condemned and they are awaiting HUD or government assistance to find a new home. The storm also flooded their school, our school. Everything that we have built up as a campus family has been lost due to flood water and mold. We are starting from scratch to rebuild our classroom. I want my students to feel like my classroom is their home away from home. I want them to come and have the resources and books needed in order to be challenged and learn because their education comes first. I am asking for a set of student read-along books, twenty seat sacks, one organizer cart, Astrobright paper, a pencil sharpener, a wobble chair and bouncy bands. I am also requesting a class set (25 copies) of Number the Stars, James and the Giant Peach and the New Explorer Student Dictionary. Thank you for your support and well wishes.
