The Language Translator Devices will be used by students who have very limited English language skills in their ESL, English Language Arts, social studies and science classes so that they will be able to better understand instructions and content. Content area teachers have struggled with first-year English Language Learners (ELLs) because of communication issues but with the translator devices in hand, students will become more independent learners, will be able to better fulfill instructional tasks and, best of all, interact more freely with their classmates! Immigrant students with limited English skills face daunting challenges; being able to communicate at school should not be one of them. The electronic Language Translator Devices are designed to break down communication barriers so that ELLs can integrate more quickly and smoothly into their new environment, allowing them to ask and answer questions more effectively, leading to scholastic improvements. The devices also let teachers get to know their ELLS more intimately so that they can participate more fully in classroom activities.
