I have a class of 22 wonderful 1st graders! We have lots of different needs within our class; multiple students with ADHD, speech difficulties, autism spectrum disorders, Tourette syndrome, and anger/emotional needs. In order to better support our classmates we need wobble cushions for those who are very wiggly and noise-muffling headphones for those who need a lower volume to concentrate and stay calm. Intensity can be a wonderful attribute when put towards something positive! In a class with a lot of intense kids I have found that their energy sometimes needs redirection to something positive and these tools will help us stay on track! We would use both of these resources during independent work times, meeting with groups at our low table, and during our read-to-self time (a favorite part of our day)! The cushions would support those kiddos who have a hard time sitting still and focusing on the carpet and at their desks. A few students have sensitivity to sound and the headphones would allow them to concentrate and stay calm without outside distractions; they would also be a choice during read-to-self time to keep us focused on our own books!
