In Kindergarten, we work on more than just academics. We teach students about caring, interacting with others, taking turns, and personal space! This rug has individual squares in it for each student to have an assigned seat. This rug will help students learn about personal space, keeping their hands to themselves and respecting others. Over a third of students in my district come from low-income households. This rug will also serve as an additional warming and welcoming part of my classroom. For many students in my classroom, school may be seen as a save haven. The rug in my classroom now is a hand-me-down. It has stains, is ripping and curling, and has dirt embedded so deep that it cannot be cleaned out. The rug area is the first thing that students and adults see when they walk into my classroom, and I want that area to be more inviting, clean and warm.
