In my classroom, students have access to a library of leveled books so that they can choose books at their own independent reading levels. Each week they take home a bag of books appropriate to their reading ability to practice at home. During reading time in the classroom, the students have a chance to choose and read books from the bins that are at their level. However, some of our bins have fewer than 15 books! It is imperative that students have access to books at their level and that the books are highly interesting to them! With this project, over 100 books will be shipped to our classroom for the 3 book bins most severely lacking. Without these books, 5 students in our classroom will have only about 30 books to choose from for the year! As you can see, there is no way those students will maintain enthusiasm for those books for the rest of the year. Need I mention that those students are also the readers from our room most in need of support? They are already reading below a second grade level. Please help us build them up by helping us build our library!
