To date my students have been regularly taught about how slavery in America was not only inhumane but was also where the roots of racial discrimination arose from. In their lesson they learned about escaped slaves and how they helped the anti-slavery movement. I would like to broaden their minds by teaching them that other cultures have been the target of inhumane acts and do this through the medium of a graphic novel; which lends itself to differentiation for reading levels. In addition, I would like my students to reflect, compare and contrast their prior knowledge with the reading of Maus to answer the question, "Does a person need to forfeit their the moral values in order to survive possible genocide?"
