Research has shown that high interest/low reading level books can motivate struggling readers. My students enjoy reading and writing nonfiction. They want to learn more about animals, weather, science, and social studies. However, many of the nonfiction books we have are too difficult and are frustrating for them to read. These books will provide my students with interesting reading material on their level. My students will have a blast becoming "experts" with these books! They will also be able to research topics and write informational "all about" and procedural "how to" books. This will greatly improve their reading and writing skills.
