On top of helping my kids understand aspects of history, The Breadwinner will help my students work through different themes and topics. As they read, students will work on their research skills, as well as tackling topics like empathy and tolerance. This book will tie with one of our units: Change In Self-Perception. Through this unit and novel, students will develop an understanding of how self-perception can be affected through the experiences of characters both fictional and nonfictional. Discovering how self-perception and where a person is from plays a significant role in who they become and how they see themselves (values).
