Students will practice basic facts through hands-on math stations. There will be four stations that students will rotate through. One of these stations is a fluency station. Students will practice basic math facts through games like Candy Land and Connect Four or while using Hot Dots. While playing these games, students will be practicing basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. Students will have to answer a flash card correctly before they can move the board game piece in Candy Land or add a checker to Connect Four. The goal of a fluency station is for students to see these simple facts as many times as possible, so that they become fluent with math facts. Many students come to third grade not knowing their basic math facts. These games will give students a fun way to practice those everyday facts that will later help us to solve three and four digit problems.
