The Heat is On Project is exactly what my students are in dire need of. Sports, health, and fitness has been an immense part of my life and I just wanted to share my knowledge and passion to every child I have the privilege to educate and coach. Sports taught me so much like: unity, responsibility, discipline, achievement and perseverance. Wayne Gretzky once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." So this is my hail Mary pass for my students to get the necessary equipment to keep their and mine dream alive. Living in South Florida, our school and students have had to deal with various environmental elements, most notably the heat and hurricanes. The reason I have requested this equipment and supplies is because our school has suffered damage due to Hurricane Irma. The outdoor shelter that provided the children shade from the extreme heat was completely destroyed as well as most of the trees. The Miami sun can be brutal almost all year round, some of our students have suffered heat exhaustion and dehydration due to these elements. The school does not have an indoor gym so when it is too hot outside they are forced into the computer label to do work. Children need to be active and need avenues to exert energy especially after being in the classroom the majority of their day. For the most part that one hour of PE is all they get. The canopy tent and fan are vital for properly providing students a break from the heat while still allowing them to playing sports. The cooler will provide the children a place to keep and store cold water. The goals, balls, and ribbons are all other equipment that can be utilized in numerous different physical activities.
