My students with disabilities will learn how to build and maintain an urban garden. Each student will be assigned to a specific garden duty and learn how to use the various garden tools. Every student will an opportunity to learn each role of the garden. The majority of my students live in a food desert where there are limited healthy food choices. With this urban garden they will learn how to produce healthy food choices in each season and to prepare healthy food dishes. This urban garden will teach my students about differences between raw foods versus cooked foods. They will learn the farmer's process to produce the food that they eat and buy from the store. Also, they will learn the nutritional value of food that they consume on a daily basis. The students will learn the cost of producing a garden at home instead of buying food in the store.
