I teach English Language Arts at the first all-girls public middle school in Los Angeles...Girls Athletic Leadership School (GALS)! The GALS community is socioeconomically diverse, with students coming from apartments and houses surrounded by everything from shopping carts to liquor stores to manicured lawns. For many, coming to school is not just a place for education but a place for safety and love. Having been a teacher since 2008, I know the value to developing students to be critical readers and writers. That is why the typical day in ELA is filled with reading, writing, and discussing. Your donation can help encourage a new generation of young people to grow academically and develop a genuine love of reading, writing, and speaking.
