In my Integrated Science class, we introduce Simple Machines. We go through the six different kinds of machines, talk about what they do, and discuss how they make work easier. What we do not do is experiement with them because I don't have the equipment. We do a little with inclined planes (ramps) from some shelf boards I found in my cabinets that I sawed in half. If you donate to this project, we can do quite a bit more with this. I have always loved Rube Goldberg Machines and I want to pass that love along to my students. My physics class constructs those as a project, but I would like to expand on this in my freshmen class as well. If I have the equipment, there are even Rube Goldberg contests that I would like to enter in the future. Ten years from now, my students won't remember a worksheet I gave them or a really good lecture I delivered, but they will remember when their machine they built actually worked.
