We will use these papers and watercolors to empower our students to create via photography and art how they see themselves. We want them to take the cameras home and take a pictures with their families during birthdays and special holidays. They can then bring these pictures back to share with the class so they can all become familiar with different cultures and families. They will also express themselves through drawing and creating self-images with construction paper and watercolors. The final outcome will be a book they will create and bind explaining who they are and where their families originate from. They will incorporate writing, art and photography to complete their books. They will exhibit their books at the Miami Dade County Fair and Expo in March and once again during our school's exhibit night. Our school is inside the Miami Children's Museum and we exhibit student work throughout the year. This project will enable our students to understand we are all different but yet the same. We want them to have understanding and tolerance for everyone regardless of their backgrounds.
