As I thought about teaching 5th grade, I was trying to recall what books were read with that grade level as I will be teaching Reading. One evening, the movie Wonder came on the TV. I then remembered reading the book and thought about the valuable lessons that could teach a group of very impressionable 5th graders. Lessons in acceptance, diversity, anti-bullying, and respect for peers all cane to mind. The students will engage not only in character education, but also in writing lessons and reading skills that are meaningful to them. They will also be able to compare and contrast the book and movie at the conclusion of the book. The TPT card will be used to purchase supplemental teaching materials.
