I teach at a Title 1 school. This means that the majority of my students come from low income families where parents struggle just to provide their children with basic life necessities. These awesome kids deserve the best. At the beginning of each year, I make it a point to help my students understand that they can reach any heights and accomplish any goals that they have in life, regardless of their current circumstances. I try as much as possible to provide them with opportunities and exposures that they may not have otherwise. Developing a passion for reading is one of my goals for students' learning each year. To encourage students to read daily outside of school, I assign monthly reading logs. Students read 20 books each month, record the author, illustrator, and date of reading. They then select their favorite book and write a summary of it. When students return the completed log, they receive an incentive.
