My mentor program students require a camera with memory card, case and tripod to capture and document our many cultural enrichment and community service projects. In my role as the School Counselor, I coordinated the development of the school’s first mentor program for our at-risk students. The mentor program focuses on academics, attendance, social/emotional development, career and college readiness, and cultural enrichment. I have had some success in obtaining grants as a financial means of exposing our students to opportunities that they would not otherwise be able to enjoy. We have been able to take field trips to colleges and universities, art museums, legislative building, athletic events, and participate in community service projects. Additionally, we have been able to expose the students to hands on, real world experiences during our annual career fair. Students are required to participate in numerous community service opportunities during the school year. Part of the final documentation for the grants, require me to submit photos and proof of activities that chronicle our cultural enrichment and community service projects. Currently, I am using my cell phone and depending on the kindness of other organizations to provide this documentation. As I continue to seek grants to provide enrichment for our students, it is my desire to submit quality photos that adequately depict our ventures and experiences. A camera with a memory card can save all these memories to later upload and reference as we experience all the places we will go. We do so many wonderful, memorable activities for our mentor program and they truly deserve to have these memories captured and created in high definition. This camera will go a long way in promoting our educational and cultural goals.
