First graders are full of energy, as they should be- they're children! They need to get their wiggles out in order to do their best work. For many students, sitting in a hard chair is not developmentally suitable for them. Providing my students with flexible seating options will allow them to choose where they work each day so they can be comfortable and successful. My goal is to have a variety of seating in my classroom beyond regular desks and include stools, floor seating, wobble stools, balance ball chairs, and other options that I've already purchased (bean bags, lap desks, and scoop rockers). After trying out all of the seating options, students can choose where they want to work each day.
