Flexible seating will provide an opportunity for students to put their mental and emotional worries to rest as they focus on critical math content. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and with many newcomers to our country, students can often feel like the classroom doesn't reflect or respect their lived experiences, many of which may include traumatic or adverse life events. Providing students with flexible seating will appeal to their base physical needs to ensure that every child can and will learn as we maximize our time in the classroom to close language and learning gaps. As we learn about irrational numbers, functions, inequalities, radicals and parabolas, students will be able to wiggle, fidget and pedal their way to a deeper understanding of and success with academic material.
